FIDE Rating List March 2026: Gukesh is the lone Indian in Top 10

The World Champion, D Gukesh is the only Indian currently in World Top 10 in March FIDE Rating list 2026. He is currently World no.10. Arjun Erigaisi and R Praggnanandhaa also slipped down to World no.11 and 13 respectively. Vishy Anand surprisingly moved to the inactive list, despite playing Tata Steel India Rapid and Blitz 2026.

A dozen Indians in Top 100

After a forgettable performances at 88th Tata Steel Chess Masters 2026, D Gukesh, Arjun Erigaisi and R Praggnanandhaa all three of them dropped a lot of Elo rating points. Raunak Sadhwani and Pranesh M are the only two Indian to gain some rating points among the Top 100.

Women: Seven Indians still in Top 100

Four Indian women are still in top 20. They are – GM Humpy Koneru, World no.5, GM Divya Deshmukh, World no.12, GM R Vaishali, World no.18 and GM Harika Dronavalli, World no.20 among women. Humpy moved up by a place, although she did not play a Classical rated game in February. Divya maintained her place, Vaishali and Harika dropped two places each. There are still seven Indians among the Top 100 women.

Countries

India had the no.2 position in February 2026 FIDE Rating list in terms of average rating of top ten players in the Open, 15 Elo rating points behind the USA. The gap increased to 33 in this list. India was also no.2 in the Women category. The gap got reduced from 93 to 90. In Mixed category, India dropped from no.2 to 3 in March list. USA is no.2 with 2552, followed by India at 2549.
