Mitrabha Guha convincingly clinches a double at Sydney Open 2026 for the second consecutive year
GM Mitrabha Guha scored an unbeaten 7/9 to win Sydney Open 2026 to win Championships section. GM Cristhian Camilo Rios (COL), GM Azer Mirzoev (AZE), GM Jacek Stopa (POL), IM Aleksandr Domalchuk-Jonasson (ISL), CM Tri Kien Le (VIE) and FM Rheyansh Reddy Annapureddy (AUS) scored 6/9 each. They shared second place. The total prize fund was AU$ 17625. The top first prize in Championships was AU$ 3000
Classical: Mitrabha finishes a full point ahead of the rest
GM Mitrabha Guha had a fantastic tour down under last year. He had won two events in each of the three tournaments – Melbourne Open, O2C Doeberl Cup and Sydney Open 2025, he played. This time also he did the same, starting with O2C Doeberl Cup.
GM Mitrabha Guha, CM Tri Kien Le (VIE) and IM Aleksandr Domalchuk-Jonasson (ISL) were the three leaders at 6/8 each, heading into the final round. Mitrabha defeated Tri Kien to become a clear champion, winning the event for the second year in-a-row. Although he scored a half point less than previous year but he also remained undefeated.

Blitz: Mitrabha scores 11/11 for the second consecutive year
Mitrabha won the Blitz Open scoring sole 11/11. He became champion for the second consecutive year with one round to spare. FM Daniel Melamed (AUS) scored 9/11 to secure second place. CM Daniel Wang (AUS) scored 8.5/11 to finish third. The top three prizes were AU $300, $200 and $100 each.

The five-day nine-round Rating Championships (>1950) tournament was organized by Winston Zhao Chen in West HQ in Sydney, Australia from 8th to 12th April 2026. The time control of the tournament was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
