Rupam Mukherjee wins 3rd Guwahati Smart City Rating Open 2026
Rupam Mukherjee scored an unbeaten 8.5/10 to win 3rd Guwahati Smart City Rating Open 2026.
Rupam’s first rating tournament triumph of the year
Nine players – Hrishikesh Kumar Banik, Niladri Banerjee, Tanmay Rajbongshi, Rupam Mukherjee, Sharsha Backer, Harsh Ghadge, Debayan Ray, Arpan Das and Uddipan Roy were the leaders at 7.5/9 each, heading into the final round. Rupam defeated Hrishikesh to become the champion. Niladri won against Uddipan to secure second place. Tanmay lost to Harsh and the latter finished third. All top four finishers – Rupam, Niladri, Harsh and Arpan Das scored 8.5/10 each and remained undefeated. This is Rupam’s first rating tournament triumph in 2026.
The total prize fund was ₹520000. The top three prizes were ₹70000, ₹50000 and ₹30000 along with a trophy each.
Champion – Rupam Mukherjee 8.5/10
Runner-up – Niladri Banerjee 8.5/10
Rupam Mukherjee scored an unbeaten 8.5/10, won the tournament on tie-breaks and gained 66.8 Elo rating points
A total of 469 players including two IMs took part from all over the country and one from England. The six-day ten-round Rating Open tournament was organized by All Assam Chess Association at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium Sarusajai in Guwahati, Assam from 14th to 19th July 2026. The time control of the tournament was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
