Soram Rahul Singh scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win Paran Jyoti Talukdar Memorial Rapid Rating Open 2026. Tanmay Rajbongshi and Subhajit Dhar scored 8/9 each. They secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks.

Soram’s seventh overall, second rating tournament triumph of the year

The top seed of the tournament, Soram Rahul Singh made a perfect start by winning eight games in-a-row. Five players – Tanmay Rajbongshi, Iftikar Alom Mazumdar, Amlan Mahanta, Ruddraksh Raj Dutta and Subhajit Dhar were trailing by a full point at 7/8 each. Soram drew against Iftikar and the former became the champion. Ruddraksh lost to Tamay who finished second. Subhajit defeated Amlan to claim third place.

The total prize fund was ₹100000. The top three prizes were ₹15000, ₹10000 and ₹8000 along with a trophy each. This is Tanmay’s first rating tournament triumph of the year.

A total of 359 players took part from all over the country. The one-day nine-round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by Barpeta District Chess Association at Barpeta College in Barpeta, Assam on 10th May 2026. The time control of the tournament was 10 minutes + 5 seconds increment.
