Subhayan Kundu superb at 2nd Chronicles of Checkmate Rating Open 2026, Bivor Adak second
IM Subhayan Kundu scored an unbeaten 9.5/11 to win 2nd Chronicles of Checkmate Rating Open 2026. FM Bivor Adak, Senarathne A A H M B (SRI), Chenitha Mithvidu Ovitigala (SRI) and A A T Nethsara Dias (SRI) scored 9/11 each. They secured second to sixth place respectively according to tie-breaks. The top three prizes were LKR 250000, 150000 and 100000 along with a trophy and medal each.
Subhayan’s first rating tournament triumph of the year
Classical: Subhayan first, Bivor second
Senarathne A A M B (SRI), IM Subhayan Kundu, Chenitha Mithvidu Ovitigala (SRI) and S D Nadev Insara (SRI) were the four leaders at 8.5/10 each heading into the last round. Subhayan defeated Insara to become a clear champion. Dhanushka Bandara (SRI) lost to FM Bivor Adak and the latter secured second place. Senarathne drew against Chenitha and the former claimed third place.

A total of 461 players including two IMs took part from various parts of the Sri Lanka and three from India. The six-day eleven-round Rating Open tournament was organized by Mayor Chess Club at Hummingbird by Susiri Reception Hall, Piliyandala in Colombo, Sri Lanka from 19th to 24th February 2026. The time control of the tournament was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
Final standings in Classical Rating
A total of 451 players including three IMs and WIM took part from various parts of the Sri Lanka and three from India. The one-day nine-round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by Mayor Chess Club at Hummingbird by Susiri Reception Hall, Piliyandala in Colombo, Sri Lanka on 22nd February 2026. The time control of the tournament was 10 minutes + 5 seconds increment.
Final standings in Rapid Rating
A total of 445 players including three IMs took part from various parts of the Sri Lanka and three from India. The one-day nine-round Blitz Rating Open tournament was organized by Mayor Chess Club at Hummingbird by Susiri Reception Hall, Piliyandala in Colombo, Sri Lanka on 21st February 2026. The time control of the tournament was 3 minutes + 2 seconds increment.
