Utsab Chatterjee clear first at 40th Avoine Open 2026
IM Utsab Chatterjee scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 40th Avoine Open 2026.
Utsab’s second rating tournament triumph of the year, Subhayan Kundu fourth
IM Utsab Chatterjee was the sole leader 7.5/8, going into the last round. Five players – GM Jean-Marc Degraeve (FRA), Alen Poghosyan (ARM), IM Peio Duboue (ENG), IM Subhayan Kundu and IM Stephane Hautot (BEL) were trailing by a full point at 6.5/8 each. Utsab needed a draw to become a clear champion and that’s what he did against the defending champion, Jean-Marc. Alen drew against Peio to finish second. IM Vincent Colin (FRA) lost to GM Vyacheslav Ikonnikov and the latter claimed third place.
The total prize fund was €12000. The top three prizes were €1500, €1100 and €900 along with a trophy each.

A total of 360 players including 4 GMs and 12 IMs took part from 16 countries across the world. The nine-day nine-round Rating tournament was organized by Club d’Echecs d’Avoine at Centre Culturel d’Avoine in Avoine, France from 18th to 26th July 2026. The time control of the tournament was 40 moves in 90 minutes + 30 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
