3rd UzChess Cup Masters 2026: Madaminov joins Vokhidov in the lead

Mukhiddin Madaminov defeated Vidit Gujrathi to join the lead with Shamshiddin Vokhidov after Round 6 of 3rd UzChess Cup Masters 2026.

A tough day for Arjun and Vidit

Shamsiddin Vokhidov drew against his teammate Nodirbek Yakubboev to stay in the lead 4/6. Mukhiddin Madaminov scored his second win in-a-row, it was against Vidit Gujrathi in Round 6. Madaminov joined Vokhidov in the lead 4/6. Arjun Erigaisi suffered his first loss of the event against Ian Nepomniachtchi. Shakhriyar Mamedyarov bounced back with a win over Nikolas Theodorou. Hans Niemann played a well contested draw against Nodirbek Abdusattorov.

Challengers: GM Aditya Mittal drew against GM Yuriy Kuzubov (UKR) to move to 3.5/6. GM Mahammad Muradli (AZE) leads the field 5/6.

Futures: GM Sethuraman S P drew his game against GM Sergei Tiviakov (NED). Sethuraman is now at 3.5/6. IM Khumoyun Begmuratov (UZB) and GM Rinat Jumabayev (KAZ) are the coleaders at 4.5/6 each.

Nepomniachtchi – Arjun: 1-0

The only time Ian Nepomniachtchi (2733) and Arjun Erigaisi (2761) played a Classical rated game was at the very same event last year. It had ended in a draw. This time, Nepomniachtchi made an interesting rook sacrifice in the endgame.

42.Rxf6! is an interesting rook sacrifice. Black has no choice but to take it 42…Kxf6 43.Nd5+ now Black needed to play Kg7 to stay in the game. Taking the pawn had the opposite effect 43…Kxe6?? 44.Nf4++– and White went on to win the game in the next few moves.

Time Control

40 moves in 90 minutes + 30 minutes for the rest of the game with 30 seconds increment starting frtom move one in Masters. For Challengers, Futures and Open, the time control is 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment.

Prizes

The total prize fund combining Masters, Challengers and Futures is US$ 215000. Masters has $150000, Challengers $50000 and Futures $15000.
