GM Pranav Venkatesh scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win Grand Prix Pluscity Austrian Rapid Championship 2026. GM Eduardo Iturrizaga Bonelli (ESP) and GM Parham Maghsoodloo (IRI) scored 8/9 each. They secured second and third place respectively.

Pranav’s fourth rating tournament triumph of the year

GM Pranav Venkatesh was the sole leader 7.5/8, heading into the final round. Seven players – GM Parham Maghsoodloo (IRI), GM Eduardo Iturrizaga This is the reigning World Junior champion, Pranav’s fourth rating tournament triumph of the year. Pranav has won Classical, Team, Blitz and now Rapid Rating tournament in less than two months since March. After R Praggnanandhaa, D Gukesh, Arjun Erigaisi and Nihal Sarin, the reigning World Junior champion, Pranav Venkatesh is proving himself to be the next big talent of Indian chess among the youngsters.

The total prize fund was €80000. The top three prizes were €4000, €3000 and €2000 each respectively.

Total 426 players including 46 GMs, 23 IMs, 4 WGMs and 5 WIMs took part from 37 countries across the world. The one-day nine Round Swiss League Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by OÖ Schachverband & Grandmaster Communications GmbH at PlusCity mall in Pasching/Linz, Austria on 14th May 2026. The time control of the tournament was 10 minutes + 5 seconds increment.
