FIDE Rating List May 2026: No Indian in Top 10

For the first time since March 2024, there is no Indian in World Top 10 in May 2026 FIDE Rating list. July 2024 FIDE Rating list was the first time three Indians were in Top 10. FIDE World Cup 2025 winner, Javokhir Sindarov’s stellar performance at FIDE Candidates 2026, moved him up to World no.5, just behind his compatriot, Nodirbek Abdusattorov at World no.4.

13 Indians still in Top 100

Vishy Anand returned to World no.12 after missing the list for the last two months. Nihal Sarin gained 7 Elo rating points in Rapid to move to World #20. His Classical rating is still 2723. The reigning World Junior 2025 champion, GM Pranav Venkatesh won a Blitz Rating Open scoring a perfect 11/11. His Blitz Rating is now 2642, making him World no.56 in the same format. He is World no.58 in Classical with an Elo rating of 2657.

Arjun Erigaisi is currently playing at 31st TePe Sigeman & Co. 2026. Will he get back in Top 10? We will know in a few days.

Women: Six Indians in Top 100

Four Indian women are still in top 20. They are – GM Humpy Koneru, World no.6, GM Divya Deshmukh, World no.12, GM R Vaishali, World no.13 and GM Harika Dronavalli, World no.19 among women. Humpy dropped a place despite not playing any game in April. R Vaishali’s fantastic performance en route her historic FIDE Women’s Candidates 2026 victory earned her 26 Elo rating points, moving her from World no.19 to 13. Although Harika did not gain any rating but her first place finish among Women at Grenke Freestyle Open 2026 earned her a spot at FIDE Freestyle Women’s Championship 2027.

Countries

India had the no.2 position in April 2026 FIDE Rating list in terms of average rating of top ten players in the Open, 29 Elo rating points behind the USA. The gap got reduced to 22 in this list. India was also no.2 in the Women category. The gap got reduced from 88 to 85. The Mixed category updates will be shared when the glitch is fixed.
