Ritviz Parab aces 5th Late Venkatesh & Sumathi Shanbhag Memorial Rapid Rating Open 2026
IM Ritviz Parab scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 5th Late Venkatesh & Sumathi Shanbhag Memorial Rapid Rating Open 2026. Santu Mondal scored sole 8/9 to secure second place. Mandar Pradip Lad 7.5/9, edged past five other players on tie-breaks to finish third.
Ritviz’s first rating tournament triumph of the year
IM Ritviz Parab was the sole leader 7.5/8, heading into the last round. Joshua Mark Telles, GM Saptarshi RoyChowdhury, Santu Mondal, Nandakumar Veeresh Sulikeri and Thangraj Nadar were trailing by a half point at 7/8 each. Ritviz defeated Nandakumar to become a clear champion. Thangraj lost to Santu and the latter secured second place. Mandar Pradip won against Saurish Kashelkar to finish third.
The total prize fund was ₹125000. The top three prizes were ₹30000, ₹15000 and ₹10000 along with a trophy each.

A total of 354 players including a GM and an IM took part from various parts of the country. The two-day nine-round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by Mormugao Taluka Chess Association at St. Therese’s High School in Vasco Da Gama, Goa on 2nd and 3rd May 2026. The time control of the tournament was 25 minutes + 5 seconds increment.
